Christmas Crashers: Updates

This is it! The final day! We’re so close and several donations have come in today, pushing us closer to the finish line! Please do everything you can to give this a final push on the last day! Thank you, Christmas Crashers!!!

Guys, we are so close to meeting our goal!!!  Because of the slow-down in donations toward the end of last week (I’m going to blame my laptop getting coffee spilled on it and my spotty Internet for not being to reach out to as many people), we had to shut down the submissions early just to make sure that we didn’t take too many names that we wouldn’t be able to help.  We ended up having exactly 30 families on the list when we closed it, which is pretty perfect.  As it stands tonight, we have $350 left to raise to give all 30 families a $50 gift card to help them give their kids a special Christmas!

If we happen to have more donations come in this week than we have names on our list, we will go down the list of those who wrote in after we closed the submissions!

You all have been SO AMAZING in our support of this project.  We will have a lot more to say about how incredible this has been, but for now, we’ll just sit back, sigh, and say “Wow.”  So “Wow.” 😀

Due to the large amount of requests for assistance that we received today, we are once again temporarily putting new submissions on hold.  Please understand that we are only doing this to protect against overextending ourselves!  We want to help everyone that we can and catching up on donations will help us to do that!  Let’s get these donations rolling in so we can help more families!  You guys are amazing!!

Wow. Wow. WOW!  I am beyond overwhelmed right now.  At this time yesterday I was starting to panic because I didn’t know how we were going to make this happen for so many families.  But I should have known better than to doubt what God can do through a few amazing people.  Last night, we were $514 in the hole when I got an email from a friend who wanted to donate the entire amount we needed in order for us to be able to open up submissions again and help more people.  $500, people.  This person wishes to remain anonymous, because that’s the kind of person they are, but they know who they are and I hope they know how many lives they are going to touch this Christmas.

Because of this huge news, we are able to open up submissions of need again.  We’ll be watching closely and if things start to get out of hand, we might need to shut down again temporarily, but I am faithful that God will provide.  Thank you for doing all you can to share what The Christmas Crashers are doing!  The first two gift cards were sent out yesterday and more will go out today!

We are temporarily shutting down submissions for help until we can close the gap between needs and donations.  Right now we have 14 families (that’s $700) who are requesting help and we have $184 donated, with a gap of $514.  Until we raise more funds, I don’t want to promise anything to anyone.  I know there are many people who want to help but I am afraid of biting off more than we can chew, so to speak.  I hope to open this back up soon!  In the meantime, we’ll be sending off the gift cards we can purchase, in the order that we have received requests.

Because of our PayPal problem, we’ve figured out how we’re going to do this.  In order to minimize the time between getting a family’s information and getting their gift card to them, we will be asking donors from now on to send us an eGift card to a retailer and we will use the eGift card balance to purchase the physical gift card which will be sent directly to the families.  Doing this has a few benefits:  more privacy for our families, families will get their gift card sooner, we can combine small donation amounts, and we will know when the gift cards go out so they can be check off of our list.  If you have any questions, please let us know.  We are up to 8 families ($400 needed) and have $161.

We’ve run into an issue with PayPal.  They’re making it very difficult for us to accept donations and as a result, we are going to cease using them for this project.  Everything donated up until this point will be able to be used for gift cards.  Please direct all donation pledges to with the subject line “I want to crash a Christmas!”

It’s been about 24 hours since we posted this, and we have at this point seven families to help ($350 total), with more to come.  We have (including the first $50 gift card that we are buying) $161 donated.  We have intentionally built in an extra week to take in donations after we stop accepting submissions for help.  We will be accepting donations until Friday, December 16th!
