I almost kissed a girl last night.
It’s a long story, let me back up.
A little over a year ago, December 5th 2011 to be exact, we had a bit of an incident involving my Macbook, my then 3 year old Miles, and a cup of coffee. I’ll never really know what happened, because I had turned away for a moment, but suffice it to say, my Macbook did not survive whatever happened. I went into a period of shocked mourning over my gorgeous 4 year old Macbook. I took it to the Apple store where they said it was eligible for depot repair (flat rate repairs for older machines) but I needed to back it up in case they weren’t able to save it. I was pretty good about backing up the computer (after a hard drive failure a few years ago), but wanted to be sure I saved everything.
After I had it backed up by professionals, it was Christmas and then money was tight and I never felt like spending $300 (the cost of the first-level repair quote) was justified for a computer. The more I went without it (using Brandon’s work computers) the more I adjusted to not having it but I still not-so-secretly pined for my Macbook.
We went on the whole year like this, setting up a sort of shared custody arrangement for Brandon’s laptop. Some days I could use it at home during the day but mostly not. My blogging and just plain foolin’ around on the Internet time was limited and I was grouchy. I was NOT a good sport about the whole thing, a part of my mind still glowering about my misfortune.
Fast forward to Christmas 2012.
My mom still makes us draw up a Christmas list with ideas for big and small gifts she can buy for all of us. Some years she sticks to the list and other times she has given us cash and let us go purchase clothes or whatever we need for ourselves and then we have to show it to the family at our Christmas celebration. This year, Brandon needed to buy new clothes for his new job and I knew Mom wanted to help me fix my Macbook.
This is what I opened at Christmas:
How cute is that? My mom is funny
So that brings me to yesterday and me almost kissing a girl. I took the Macbook to the Genius Bar last week, prepared to send it off forever, knowing I might not be able to afford the repairs if it was bumped up to the 2nd tier repair level. I kinda crossed my fingers and prayed for the best.
Yesterday I got a call to say that they only had to replace the outer case and casing around the keyboard and the battery. Because of some kind of special Apple math, they only charged me for the new battery, $129! I refused to believe it, thinking it had to be a mistake, until I was checked out at the Apple store and my Macbook was officially resurrected! I was giddy. Not even my boys acting like lunatics in the Apple store could dampen my mood.
So today I write to you from my newly-repaired Macbook, ready to kick 2013′s butt with awesomeness!
