So many parenting books focus on specific things you must do or must not do in order to raise a healthy, well-adjusted child. While those tips can be helpful, sometimes life doesn’t go according to plan. It’s important that parents center themselves at their heart, or top 10 lists of behaviors and responses are likely to fail.
Jennifer Laurent’s Excerpts from the Heart of a Mom is a heart-warming book full of the author’s personal experiences and revelations that shaped her into the parent she is today. She encourages others to focus not on doing this or that, but rather her “25 Concepts of Conscious Parenting”, which inspire parents to a new way to parent. The goal is peace, joy, and fulfillment in your family.
I was personally encouraged by Jennifer’s writing. It was comforting to hear her story and see how she turned it into a life-transforming experience for herself. I appreciated the message that children are teaching us, and while there is certainly a place for instruction and guidance, parents should be connected with their children to learn what they are sharing. From the title, you might think you’re preparing to read the book of an uber-crunchy mom that would never let her child cry, but she writes about children learning independence and self-soothing.
Excerpts from the Heart of a Mom is a quick read, at 100 pages, but within those pages you’ll be encouraged and inspired. I found myself taking deep breaths while reading, calming me and helping me feel in control. The chapters (excerpts) are something you can read again and again if there is a particular area you are struggling with in your parenting journey. I also believe they would be excellent to share in a mom’s group setting.
