You thought you were in the clear, didn’t you? You thought you were going to get away with not seeing a huge post about my son’s first day of school. Well you were wrong
I’m going to give you a spoiler alert right now…We made it! He loved it and has agreed to go back. In fact, he has gone back two more days since the first day! Here are some highlights from Miles’s first day…
Reading “The Night Before Preschool” on Thursday night
The infamous Toy Story backpack, with a cute bag tag I got from a free printable, ready to go to school!
Notice the Comfort Heart in his hand
My parents were able to stay at our house with Spencer while Brandon and I drove to school with Miles for the big drop-off. Miles gave some sweet hugs to Grandma, Grandpa, and Spencer before heading to the car. I lost it a little bit when I started telling Miles what a big boy he is and what a big deal it was for him.
We arrived at the school, found a parking spot, and walked him to the appropriate door. On the way in, Miles spotted some parents and shouted “Hey! Hey guys! I got a backpack! *turns around* See??”
Oh yeah. He’s going to be fine, I thought.
We walked through the door and into what we now call The Caterpillar Room, named by us after the chaotic toddler daycare room from Toy Story 3. Miles and I both had a momentary freakout right then. He looked at me with tears in his eyes and said “It’s too loud, Mommy! I don’t want to be here!” but I held him close and whispered in his ear “It’s okay! It won’t be this loud in your classroom! It’ll be okay!”
And it was. A few moments later, Miles’s teacher lined up his classmates and after one last hug they headed down the short ramp to his classroom that we had visited at the school’s Open House. He had a look of excitement in his eyes as he turned the corner. I let out a deep sigh as we turned around and left.
That was it. My little boy, now in preschool.
And I couldn’t be more excited for his future.
