Our good friend Trista is going to be sharing a series of posts about her new commitment to a healthier weight! Krista is still computerless and Jamie is moving several states away with her family this weekend, so please pardon the lack of regular posts from us. If you’re interested in guest writing for us, please let us know!
I am so glad to be guest blogging here on The Playdate Crashers. I am excited to share my journey about getting healthier with all that will listen, and hopefully we will be able to learn a few tips and tricks from each other. I am going to be 100% honest with you all, so get ready to see my actual weight in numbers…yeah, that’s right, I am not holding back on this one. You are also going to hear my struggles too, because after all, we are all human!
About four years ago, just one year after the birth of my son, I decided that I was fed up with my weight. I had gained 50 lbs while I was pregnant, but even before then I had ballooned from my “wedding weight” of 190 lbs to 240 lbs. So, I decided that I had to do something about it. At 240 very uncomfortable pounds, I decided to join Weight Watchers. I was so pumped, and over the next year, I lost a total of 50 pounds. I was definitely on my way to a healthier life for my family and for myself. However, over the past three years, I have slowly drifted back up, and as of Monday, January 2nd, I weighed in at 233 pounds. I won’t even begin to discuss the utter disdain and disgust that I had with myself when I finally stepped back on that scale. The important point is that I did STEP BACK ON THE SCALE. One thing I have learned over the past few years is that you are kidding yourself if you think you are going to try to lose weight and never step on a scale. You have to monitor your successes and failures weekly.
So, on January 2nd, I got back to it. Back to Weight Watchers (I use the online tracker rather than attend meetings due to time constraints), back to exercising regularly, back to not abusing my body. Here are my “before” pictures that I am hoping will serve as a motivator to me every time I look at them.
New For Me…in the next few months I am going to try all kinds of new things. New workouts, new foods, new cooking gadgets, etc. and I will put a review in my blog so that you can see what I think of things. So, this week, my new thing was trying new workouts. I am a person who absolutely loathes conventional exercise. I use the word “loathe”, because I don’t just dislike it, I actually hate it. I get a kick out of people who say they enjoy it or love it….really? I think it is ultra boring! This week however, I attempted to broaden my horizons.
Josh recently got an Xbox 360 with Kinnect in a drawing (still can’t believe it!). We have The Biggest Loser for Kinnect and Just Dance 3 for Kinnect. I have tried both of them this week, and Just Dance 3 is by far my ultimate favorite. You get a great cardio work out and the best part is that it is fun. The Biggest Loser game give you a great work out, don’t get me wrong, actually kicked my butt pretty hard on Monday and Tuesday, but it is boring as all get out.
So, that’s where I am. Trying really hard to make it my lifestyle this time. For next time, I am looking for some new and different fruits and veggies to try out. Do you have a favorite? A great healthy way to prepare them? Let me know!
