Giving List: Buy a Cow Man!

It’s all too easy to get wrapped up in the “Getting” around the holidays.  Not only what we will get, but we search for the perfect present at the perfect price, concerned with getting the best for everyone.  We’re shining our spotlight on organizations and businesses that can help you focus more on giving this Christmas!

Let’s face it, trying to explain the concept of being charitable to a two year old is hard, if not impossible.

But one thing my kids have never struggled understanding is animals.

I imagine that in another corner of the world, there are three little boys who get animals too. Not only are they funny to look at and exciting to discover, but they help provide for their family, for their community.

That is why this year, Heifer International is on our giving list.

Your family can donate to Heifer International and purchase all kinds of different livestock to give to families in need around the world. They have several different animals and you can purchase the whole animal or buy a share to contribute to a larger goal.

This year for Christmas, consider giving a flock of chickens for only $20 to people like Omari and Kulwa from Tanzania were struggling to raise a family on just 50 cents a day. With the training and chicks they received from Heifer, egg sales have boosted their daily income to $2, so they can now buy food and still pay school fees. Now, through passing on the gift, all of the children in their village are going to school.

Check out Heifer International website to see how your family can buy a cow to give this Christmas!

There are all sorts of ways that you could get creative with this too. The website offers an opportunity to send a card with your gift. For your home, kids could make a craft or buy a Christmas ornament to represent the gift that you are giving to serve as a reminder.
